Getting Started

How did you get started in film making?

By helping out on shoots, attending workshops and having a healthy interest in film (and as far as I’m concerned, I’ll always be ‘just starting out’ as you are always learning something new in this industry).

How do you go about getting your projects of the ground?

I approach all projects with the same energy on the first day as the last. Getting a project of the ground needs bags of energy, bundles of enthusiasm and the right people interested in your project all at the same time.

Some say that’s luck but I believe you make your own luck. Take from that, what you will.

Fatal Attraction

What attracted you to producing?

I love creating something out of nothing. If someone comes to me with an idea, I like nothing more than to sit down and work out how we can make it happen. So I guess producing suits me down to the ground.

What attracted you to directing?

One of my strengths is having the ability to habitually take a leap of faith, believe in my own ability 100% and then make sure everyone on board stays with the vision that’s been created, developed and is being executed.

As a director I expect to enthuse, enchant and excite the audience with our creation. Amongst other things, this is the core of directing when working on a  low to no micro budget production.

For The Love Of Film

Where did your love of film come from?

I think all kids love films and I was no different. I can remember saving enough money to go to the Coliseum cinema in North West London to watch late night films. Thanks to that I was hooked.

Have you always wanted to get into film production?

Yes and no; with television I love good documentaries that probe into subjects no-one else will take on. A big part of me wants to take on subjects I find interesting.

Film still needs to have that grit of a documentary but in an intelligent way. Shawshank Redemption or Goodfellas are good examples of what I mean.

Being able to write and direct a feature is a huge task but not beyond me or the team I surround myself with. Great things are achieved when they are coupled with great minds.

Who would you cite as your influences?

Great directors like Scorsese or Tarantino and great actors like De Niro are amongst my favourites. I’d like to work with them all one day. Wishful thinking eh!

The Ambition

Tell me more about your guest speaking?

This is a simple idea so I liked it from day one, Growing Ambitions aim is to develop young talent so this was in line with my ethos.

If you have experience in a specific field, then you list your chosen subjects, state your availability and when they have a requirement in your field, they contact you. Simple enough!

This appeals to me on two fronts, firstly how many young people do you know in the film industry and secondly I get the opportunity to inspire a new generation.

Speaking to a group of youngsters and helping them by bringing insight, experience and knowledge is priceless and on a personal level very rewarding.

Can you tell us anything about your future plans?

I am currently in the development stage on several projects including: Healing Art, TNQ and Project M4. I plan to move through development quickly getting these projects to pre production is paramount.
